Following the success of its earlier forays into wine retail in its home state of Pennsylvania, Giant Food Stores, LLC has opened its second in-store Allegro Vineyards Wine Shoppe.
The wine store opened Feb. 14 in Giant’s Silver Spring Township store. The first Allegro Wine Shoppe opened in the chain’s Enola store this past November.
“[The opening] continues Giant’s commitment to promoting quality products found right here in Pennsylvania’s own backyard,” said Tracy Pawelski, Giant’s director of public and community relations.
“This is an inspired union between Central Pennsylvania’s leading grocer and Allegro Vineyards, which has been crafting fine wines since 1980,” added Carl Helrich, winemaker and owner of Allegro Vineyards. “Our common goal is to offer Giant customers a varied selection of fine, Pennsylvania-produced wines.”
The Allegro line joins Blue Mountain as the only two wine brands for sale at Carlisle, Pa.-based Giant. Blue Mountain Wine Shoppes are located within the South Hanover Township and Willow Grove Giant stores.
Pennsylvania law permits the sale of wine in grocery stores as long as there is a wall separating the wine shop from the rest of the store.
Allegro Vineyards is based in Brogue, Pa. The company’s product list includes more than 20 wines, ranging from reds and whites to fruit, spiced, and dessert wines. The vineyard has been crafting wines since 1980.
