Woodford Reserve Frosty Four Wood

Woodford Reserve has expanded its Distillery Series line with a new expression: Frosty Four Wood.

The Distillery Series line launched in July of 2015. It includes small-batch offerings available for purchase at the Woodford Reserve Distillery and select Kentucky retailers. The first two whiskies in this line were Double Double Oaked and Sweet Mash Redux.

The third is Frosty Four Wood. Developed by Master Distiller Chris Morris, this new expression is “mature” Woodford Reserve whiskey, the company says, aged in American Oak and finished in barrels made from Maple Wood, Sherry Wood and Port.

Juice for this whiskey originates from Woodford Reserve’s Four Wood, a 2012 Master’s Collection release. The whiskey was exposed to “record-low temperatures” during the 2013 Polar Vortex, the company says, resulting in flocking, or mineral precipitation.

Filtration techniques then produced a more fruit-forward whiskey with maple hints. Aromas include holiday spices, fig, raisin, dried cherry and apricot, maple syrup and coffee. The flavor is nutty and spicy, the company says, with notes of honey oak and maple syrup.

Frosty Four Wood is bottled at 90.4 proof, with a suggested retail price of $49.99 for a 375-ml. bottle.
