The Portugese winery Quinta De La Rosa has been run by the same family — Bergqvist — since 1906. The port aspect of the business was relaunched in 1988, and has three bottles in the American market:
Lote 601 Ruby Porto is made from traditional port varieties, mainly Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesca, Tinta Barroca and Tinta Roriz. It is blended in vats, and the wine has an average age of between 3-4 years old. It is not too sweet, and should be consumed within 2-3 years of bottling. The ABV is 19.8% and the SRP is $19.
Tonel 12 Ten Year Tawny Porto is made mainly from Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesca, inta Barroca and Tinta Roriz. Port held back for this tawny is aged in 550-liter oak casks. Flavors include dried fruit, figs, honey and almonds, and a touch od mandarin on the finish. It should be consumed within 2-3 years of bottling. 20% ABV and $36 SRP.
20 Year Old Tawny is made mainly from Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesca and Tinta Roriz from the older dry-stone terraced vineyards at La Rosa. An elegant port, the company says, this has flavors of dry fruits and liqueur. It is on the slightly dryer side. Hand-picked grapes are trodden foot in granite lagares. Stored in 550-liter oak casks. 20% ABV, SRP: $44
