Hacienda Araucano Chilean Wines

Hacienda Araucano is located in the Lolol Valley, a sub-region of Chile’s Colchagua Valley, a region well known for its winemaking. Hacienda Araucano has recently introduced four new wines into the American market.

Aromas of prune, white pepper are on the nose, the company reports, with notes of garrigue such as rosemary and thyme, plus eucalyptus. Flavors include red fruits, making it a match for meats and cheeses. 14.3% ABV. Ages well with 2-4 years. Suggested retail price: $12.99 per 750-ml. bottle.

The Araucano Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 is 100% Cab Sauv aged for 10 months in French oak. The nose contains blackberry, grilled sweet pepper and vanilla, the company says, with similar flavors on the palate. Pour alongside meats and cheeses. 14.5% ABV. Ages well with 2-4 years. Suggested retail price: $12.99 per 750-ml. bottle.

The Araucano Pinot Noir 2014 is 100% Carmenere, aged for 10 months in French oak barrels. On the nose are fresh strawberries and cherries, the company reports, with notes of clove and other spices. Similar upon the palate, making this a pair for lamb with a mushroom sauce, or soft cheeses. 14% ABV. Ages well with 2-4 years.

The Araucano Clos De Lolol 2013 is 55% Syrah, 19% Carmenere, 15% Cab Franc and 9% Cab Sauv, aged for 18 months in French oak. The aroma is black fruit jam and tobacco, the company says, while flavors include leather, white pepper and licorice. Pair with heavier dishes like wild game in a red wine sauce, or BBQ ribs. 14.6% ABV. Ages well with 5 years. Suggested retail price: $19.99 per 750-ml. bottle.
