Jeff Painter Assumes Role of NABCA Chairman

Jeffrey L. Painter, chairman of the Virginia Alcoholic Beverage Control Authority

(Virginia ABC), assumed the role of Chairman of the NABCA Board during the May Annual Conference in Phoenix, AZ.

Mr. Painter succeeds Andrew J. Deloney, chairman of the Michigan Liquor Control Commission (MLCC), who completed his term in May and is now immediate past chairman of the NABCA Board of Directors.

Mr. Painter has served as chairman or vice chairman of nearly all of NABCA’s committees. “Having been a part of the association for many years and understanding its goals and mission, and having served as Chairman of Virginia ABC, Jeff’s experience in the alcohol arena and his leadership will continue the forward momentum set by his predecessors,” said Jim Sgueo, NABCA president and CEO. “I look forward to working with him as the Chairman of the Board.”

Painter was appointed as a commissioner of Virginia ABC by Governor Terry McAuliffe in January, 2014, and was designated as chairman in April, 2014. He has more than 20 years of senior executive leadership experience in the public and private sectors, including prior service at Virginia ABC as legislative and regulatory coordinator and chief administrative officer from 2006–2010.

During his prior service at Virginia ABC, he oversaw the Hearings and Appeals, and the Public Affairs divisions of the agency. His additional service includes executive director of the Virginia League of Conservation Voters, owner of Property Partners, a property management business operating and investing in vacation rental properties, and president of Ferncliff LLC, a consulting firm for non-profits and business concerns. Mr. Painter has served in many volunteer leadership capacities, including the Board of Fields United Methodist Church, the Fan District Civic Association Board of Directors, and the Toyota Urban Education Advisory Committee. A native of Page County, Virginia, he graduated from Emory and Henry College.

Painter chose “Advancing Our Future Value” as the Chairman’s theme for the year. “Great partnerships act as a catalyst for each member to grow and succeed. Let each state and industry partner dedicate ourselves to advancing our future value across the board, for an even stronger, more vibrant future,” he said in remarks before the Annual Conference audience.
