Buried Cane is the newest brand of wines from Middleton Family Wines in Washington State. The name comes from a practice used to protect grape vines from harsh winter temperatures, when low-growing vine canes are buried under the soil then unearthed when the freeze passes. The company has released a 2008 Heartwood Red (which is syrah based), 2009 chardonnay, 2009 riesling and 2008 cabernet sauvignon. The wines range in retail price from $12 to $25.
