Hedges Family Estate 2012 La Haute Cuvée

Hedges Family Estate has announced its new wine from the Red Mountain AVA of Washington State. La Haute Cuvée is a Demeter-certified, biodynamically-farmed and vinified 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, the company says.

The 2012 La Haute Cuvée is available only in magnum (1,200 1.5L-bottles produced, with a suggested retail price of $120) and sourced from original Hedges winery blocks dating back to 1990.

Hedges Family Estate was launched in 1986 by Tom and Anne-Marie Hedges and the winery has remained family-owned and managed ever since. Pioneers in helping to establish the Red Mountain AVA (Washington State’s smallest AVA at 4,040 acres), Tom and Anne-Marie started with 50 acres on the southwest slope of Red Mountain and their vineyard holdings have grown to 125 acres in the heart of Red Mountain, the company says.

In 2008, the estate vineyards were converted to biodynamic farming. Currently, 40% of their 125 acres are certified biodynamic, the company says, with the remaining vineyards sustainably farmed. Hedges Family Estate Red Mountain (SRP $26.99), a Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot/Syrah based blend, is their flagship wine.

Today, with their 25th vintage in market, the second generation of Hedges upholds their parents’ vision: Christophe Hedges is General Manager, and his sister, Sarah Goedhart, was recently promoted from Assistant Winemaker to Head Winemaker, taking over the reins from her uncle Pete.

Hedges wines are available nationally and also on Amazon.com.
