To honor the passing ofknowledge down the generations of Laphroaig Distillery Manager, Laphroaig Distillery Manager John Campbell has created Laphroaig Lore. The distillery says it is “the most richly flavored of all Laphroaig.”
“Lore, meaning the passing of knowledge or tradition through word of mouth, is the story of how we make Laphroaig, encapsulating the skills that have been passed down from generation to generation for over two centuries,” the company says in a press release.
The rich flavor is the result of liquid being drawn from a selection of casks including double matured first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels followedby Virgin European Oak, first-fill Oloroso Sherry butts, first-fill and refill quarter casks and refill ex-Laphroaig stock, the company says
The smoke nose include with seaside minerals and a hint of ash and bitter chocolate drops, the company says. Vanilla follows with oily unfrosted chestnuts and a hint of fudge with a malty sweetness. A drop of water adds a clotted cream note with fruit appearing in the form of unripe citrus in a flan glaze. The taste is richly peaty with a spicy chili bite, the company reports.
Laphroaig Lore is 96 proof, and available at retail locations in limited quantities and in select markets nationwide at a suggested retail price of $124.99 for a 750-ml. bottle.
